FIAT Group Supplier Award for Schaeffler Group Automotive

The Schaeffler Group, Herzogenaurach, has today received the prestigious ¡°FIAT Group Supplier Award¡± in the category ¡°Best supplier technical development support¡± for its recent development of the fully variable valvetrain concept ¡°MultiAir¡± by the INA brand and also the projects for the development of double clutch applications for direct shift gearboxes, performed by LuK. Dr. Peter Pleus, President Engine Systems Division, and Nobert Indlekofer, President Transmission and Chassis Systems Division, accepted the award on behalf of Schaeffler Group at the FIAT Group Supplier Conference in Turin.

MultiAir is a cam-actuated, electro-hydraulic valve train system. It can be applied to both spark ignition and diesel engines and utilizes the existing engine oil circuit. When MultiAir is combined with a spark ignition engine, the fuel consumption is significantly reduced, together with increased performance and torque. When used in diesel engines, even the emission control is decisively improved.

LuK¡¯s dry double clutch for double clutch transmissions offers gear changes without torque interruption and thus increases driving comfort substantially. In comparison to conventional automatic transmissions, fuel consumption can be reduced by more than 10%.
